Industrialization began at the end of the 18th century with the advent of steam power and the invention of the power loom, radically changing the way products were manufactured. A century later, electricity and assembly lines made mass production possible. Later, in the 1970s, the Third Industrial Revolution brought advances in computer-based automation allowing machines and networks to be programmed.
We are now experiencing the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is transforming economies, work models and even society itself. With a combination of physical and digital technologies, Industry 4.0 brings analysis, artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT) to an interconnected digital ecosystem capable of providing accurate information. The revolution includes smart and connected technologies not only in companies and sectors, but in our daily lives.
The documentary “Industry 4.0”, sponsored by Deloitte through the Culture Incentive Law and produced independently by Produtora Brasileira, brings an analysis of the impacts the Fourth Industrial Revolution has on the intersection between digital and physical environments in manufacturing processes.
Recorded before and after the advent of Covid-19, the documentary shows how the digital transformation driven by the concepts of Industry 4.0 gained momentum even with the profound impacts of the crisis caused by the pandemic, due to a new scenario that is established for the business and social relations. Finally, the documentary also addresses how companies are preparing to harness the full potential of change to achieve significant competitive advantages.
Deloitte specialists and representatives from universities, companies and various institutions, from Brazil and around the world, such as the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), participate as interviewees in this documentary.
