Commitment to change
Deloitte Brazil’s CEO discusses the new business community’s attitude towards growthOctober-December | 2017
After three years of economic activity decline and a business dynamics marked by doses of uncertainty, Brazil reached the end of 2017, finally, with the prospect of a new cycle. More than the recent economic indexes, the positive signals are now coming from the business community’s own vision, captured by our comprehensive “Brazil’s Agenda 2018” survey, the results of which are exposed in this edition of Mundo Corporativo.
Amid the wealth of this survey’s data, the maturity of business leaders about the factors that will impact more strongly their business next year arouses the attention. The concern is markedly increased with the direction of the national infrastructure and structural reforms the country historically longs for, than with the possible election results. Of course, the political climate will continue to be important for the economy and business, but decision-makers are turning mainly to topics that impact on the long term and that allow for the organizations’ greater competitiveness.
On the other hand, if it is not completely safe to say that 2018 will be a better year than the previous ones – even though we have strong reasons to bet on this hypothesis –, the business community has in their hands the major vector of change that Brazil needs right now: the attitude.
It is by the individual commitment to transformation, from each decision maker and opinion leader, that the economic upturn will materialize. No government statistic or research will be more powerful to indicate the economic recovery than our own stance in moving the virtuous investments and opportunities cycle wheel.
We, at Deloitte, believe this is the moment to demonstrate, more than ever, this commitment to the construction of a Brazil that grows again – even stronger than before, after so many costly, but necessary learnings for the good practices in relations between the Government, the private sector and the society. We need to incorporate and require change also from our suppliers, customers, business partners, employees, government representatives and market players in general.
The new year invites us to expect less from statistics that are coming and take the main role that will produce the real graphs of the resumption.
Good reading and Happy New Year!
